Summer heat..wow..
Heat index of 107..yikes!
This is dangerous weather. One thing about homestead life is the ability to adjust your routine to the weather. This kind of weather we are up early, getting our projects done and then resting or doing quiet things until it cools in the evening. I was out all morning, and just came in.
making an awesome lunch! Farm fresh eggs ( our girls run all day but are locked up at night for safety) , onions from the garden , baby bella Mushrooms and farm butter and cheese… sadly we are dryin our goatie girls up til they kid again.. They need to rebuild from the work of producing milk and have a chance to build strong healthy kids.
What was my morning like? Beautiful!
Made tea and coffee, then ambled down to the creek, checking the water levels, seeing what wildlife had come thru… doe and her half grown fawn and a coon left tracks at the spring pool.she had munched on the horsetail across the creek before moving on up the hollow.
Ran the weed eater on the drive way…we’ve gotten behind the last few years and the dock has been trying to take over, so trying to keep it cut back so it wont re seed. Watered the garden, tied the tomatoes up higher… these are the mortgage lifters that I hope to seed save this Fall.
Then did some sorting …having to reorganize craft supplies so they are a little more accessible. Got some orders to fill..one lady has ordered three pairs of my adult size fairy wings with LED lightss.
I truly enjoy creating such beautiful things for those who enjoy them!
Trying to keep the pathways and trails clear, we’ve had several copperheads and two rattlers show up…mating season now, so they are cranky. Dont want anyone not seeing one!
Ive been asked several times lately to return to doing my ”Wild Walks” seasonally again. I love doing it, just our property is remote and rough walking. But people are still asking, so I am looking at dates.. Its had to judge weather with the new patterns.
We had two giant oaks go down during the big winds, right across a favorite pathway.. but we probably wont cut them til fall wood time.. one of the things we do is try to only use down trees for firewood each year.
I came up and worked with the dogs for awhile, then it started getting tooo hot, so lunch and blog, haha!
have a good day gang and be careful in this heat!
