Bees? Oh my…

Hi!

I’m Jeannie , wife the resident beekeeper. LOL!

Neill is a Master beekeeper, with a deep love of the bees and their lore. He has a fewwww hives and keeps me in honey.

I love watching the golden horde fly in the sunshine. When they spiral up before heading out it can be a stunning sight! Unfortunately I am one of those poor souls who are allergic, so I have to watch from a distance. Sigh….

We welcome visitors interested in beekeeping , tho ask you give us some notice so that you can come on a day when he is actively working his bees.

We took a heavy hit on our colony this last winter , but are recovering nicely. Neill acquired a Russian queen from a local fellas , James Rhein, who goes down to Mississippi every year.

This little queen ( We named her Natashsa) is very prolific! She has already filled two boxes with brood, so we are really hopeful of rebuilding back to our twelve hive goal over the next year or so.

We love the concept of having our own honey and selling the excess at our Farmer’s Market. you yet our primary goal with them is encouraging the survival of these vital pollinators. They are such an important part of a sustainable ecosystem. One of Neills goals is to develop a colony of bees here in our hollow with a high survival rate.

This is an intregal part of our view of an organic lifestyle. The old cliche of “The Circle Life” is really a foundation for all we try to do. These wonderful bees are a big part of keeping the homestead healthy and viable.
