We are in process of reclaiming our garden and it so wonderful to see it coming back to life!
One of the principles we try to practice is working with the land.
When we first walked the place , this area was a reflecting pool much of the year. It was near where we had chosen to build so we felt it work well as a garden. Little did we know that it was fed by a spring!
When we cleared the small area we’d planned on, the spring manifested. Evidently there is a rock ledge abut three feet down under the site. well, solution? Raised beds.
My weird definition of organic is not pesticide free, but creating healthy soil so that pesticides aren’t needed because the plants are much healthier. we do use companion planting in all its various incarnations, tho.
My view of organic is strong, healthy soil, leading to stronger, less disease prone plants.
One of the benefits of raised bed , intensive gardening, is the ability to tailor your soil to the crop you will be growing. Also, by creating a rich environment , you can plant much more intensely per bed. We do successive planting , as well as using crop rotation methods
i am getting so elated seeing our garden begin to return to itself again!
